Abstract
Due to product perishability, stringent hygiene requirements, and intense global competition, the food products industry increasingly requires the adoption of advanced managerial approaches to enhance both operational and strategic performance. Accordingly, this study aimed to develop and validate a model of the interactive effects of Value Stream Mapping and Sustainable Supply Chain Management on value added and production process quality in the food products industry. Philosophically grounded in pragmatism, the study employed a mixed-methods design with a sequential exploratory approach. In the qualitative phase, a meta-synthesis was conducted to identify the main dimensions and indicators of the model through the systematic screening of 1,745articles, from which 66 studies were finally selected based on the CASPcriteria. The identified components were then structured and analyzed using DEMATELtechnique to determine the causal relationships among the model dimensions. In the quantitative phase, the extracted model was validated using survey data collected from 212 experts, and the proposed relationships were tested through structural equation modeling in SmartPLS3. The findings revealed that flow and operational coordination and operational efficiency constitute the primary driving constructs of the model. Improvements in operational flow through VSM showed a direct positive effect on economic performance and operational quality. the results suggest that integrating lean operational tools with sustainability-oriented supply chain strategies can reduce waste, improve safety-related indicators, and ultimately foster sustainable and customer-centered value creation in the food industry. Based on these findings, managerial implications such as the development of green VSM practices and enhanced supply chain transparency are recommended.
