Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in analyzing consumer behavior in banking marketing, with a focus on Iraqi banks. In terms of purpose, the study is applied, and in terms of method, it follows a mixed-methods approach with a sequential exploratory design. In the qualitative stage, 20 semi-structured interviews were conducted with specialists in digital-marketing management, information technology, and academia in the city of Baghdad who had at least seven years of work experience and direct experience in the field of artificial intelligence; the data were analyzed using MAXQDA software. The findings showed that the core phenomenon was the strategic deployment of artificial intelligence in guiding advertising and understanding customer needs. In addition, the inadequacy of traditional marketing, digital transformation, and intensified competition were identified as causal conditions; the cultural environment and regulatory framework as contextual conditions; infrastructural and human barriers as intervening conditions; and precise targeting, predictive analytics, and conversational marketing as the main strategies—ultimately leading to improved banking marketing performance, increased conversion, enhanced customer satisfaction and loyalty, reduced costs, and the creation of competitive advantage. In the quantitative stage, a questionnaire developed from the qualitative findings was distributed among 215 digital-marketing and advertising managers and employees, and the model was validated using Smart PLS software. The results show that artificial intelligence, by converting customers' behavioral data into marketing insight, can pave the way for Iraqi banks to move from traditional, reactive marketing toward smart, personalized, predictive, and dynamic marketing.
